Being a senior citizen is no longer what it used to be! The over 50s of today unscrupulously tread on the toes of their children and grandchildren. Internet, rollerblades, Facebook and gym classes give rhythm to the days of our new senior citizens who no longer intend being confined to the “OAP” section of trains that are leaving!

Physical activity goes hand in hand with the maintenance of mental ability. They no longer have a fear of learning – on the contrary! They seem to get a good kick out of learning, researching and developing intellectually! Forget about crochet and reading the newspaper with a magnifying glass…today, people are learning communication techniques – and languages.

In this matter also, the new over 50s prove to be daring. They launch into the learning of foreign languages with a curiosity and a motivation which would do justice to the teenagers who polish the benches of secondary and high schools. Not content with swotting vocabulary and syntax, our elders want more, including culture, a social setting and fun ! With friends of their generation, they explore destinations in the USA, in New Zealand, in Asia and in Europe and enjoy discussions and interesting encounters with the teachers and the inhabitants of the place.
