Whether you like his rose period or you prefer his blue one, Pablo Picasso is an artist who knows how to move, surprise and appeal to millions of people through his paintings. Genius, divine inspiration or a godsend… People are still wondering.
The most famous painter of all times was born in Malaga. Straddling two river valleys on the Costa del Sol, on the Mediterranean coast, the capital city of the eponymous region was also given God’s blessing. No doubt its mild climate contributed to young Pablo’s blossoming, let alone to the inspiration he showed all through his artistic career.
A long time ago, the Phoenicians founded Malaga that later was under Roman, then Arab rule and was eventually conquered by the catholic kings. All these civilizations have left their marks and you will certainly enjoy discovering its monuments and museums, its architectural treasures and cultural heritage, in sunny weather all the year long.
But, to go back to Pablo – you can find him everywhere in Malaga. The house where he was born stands majestically in the very town centre. The same building houses the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Foundation, its documentary resources as well as the painter’s bibliography. Very often cultural events take place in the very house where the Great Pablo grew up. On the first floor, you will visit the Picasso museum, in the flat where the artist was actually born in 1881.
The Buenavista Palace, a sixteenth century building, houses the Picasso Museum in Malaga. Paintings, drawings, sculptures and engravings by the master show how long and great his artistic career was. This permanent exhibition is therefore a sample of Picasso’s extraordinary artistic vision.
Workshops, talks, concerts, lectures and many other events are dedicated to Malaga’s most famous son. If you want to hear laudatory comments on Pablo in the Spanish version, it is high time you attended a Spanish course.
